Apps
Chorus
Works with: Ableton Live 12, Logic Pro 12 (beta), FL Studio 2025 or later (beta). macOS on Apple silicon.
Chorus is the AI agent inside your DAW. It reads the whole project and proposes notes, mix moves, device and plug-in settings, arrangements and audio edits. Every change waits for review: added, removed and changed notes in green, red and amber, mix moves as before → after. You can audition a proposal in Live, apply it, and undo anything later from History. Plugins bring in your own sample library, stems on your Mac, and services like ElevenLabs. It runs on your own AI key, with spending limits. Ableton · Logic · FL Studio
VIXSOUND
Works with: Ableton Live 11 and 12 (Standard and Suite). macOS (Apple silicon and Intel); Windows in public beta. Logic is on its waitlist.
A chat assistant in Ableton that generates MIDI, separates stems, mixes and arranges; stem separation and audio analysis run on your computer. Plans from $9 to $79 a month in credits, with a 7-day trial. Pricing
LIA
Works with: Ableton Live on macOS and Windows, through the LIA Bridge; other DAWs planned. Runs as a web app and mobile web app.
Generates editable MIDI, beats, sound design and mixing suggestions from chat, including generation from a reference. It doesn't output finished audio. Free plan; paid plans from €24.99 a month. liaplugin.com
Jamu
Works with: Ableton Live.
An "AI co-producer" released in March 2026 that turns instructions into actions on clips, devices and automation, with editable, reversible results. Token packs from $9, and a $30 monthly plan with a premium model. MusicTech's coverage
StudioPilot
Works with: Ableton Live on macOS and Windows.
Controls Live from plain language, as a standalone app or as a kit you connect to Claude or ChatGPT. It lists 200+ Ableton actions, including creating clips, arranging, and reading spectrograms for mixing. $33.99 one-time at its founder price. studiopilotmusic.com
Open-source connectors (MCP servers)
MCP servers connect an AI app you already use, such as Claude Desktop or Cursor, to your DAW. They're free, and you install and configure them yourself. Changes go straight into your project as the AI makes them.
- ableton-mcp (Live, about 3,100 stars): a remote script plus a server run with
uv; works with Claude Desktop and Cursor. - Producer Pal (Live, about 320 stars): a Max for Live device that works with Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT or a local model, and doubles as a REST API for Live.
- Logic Pro: koltyj/logic-pro-mcp and MongLong0214/logic-pro-mcp (about 110 stars each), controlling Logic through macOS.
- FL Studio: karl-andres/fl-studio-mcp (about 190 stars), driving FL through MIDI and piano-roll scripts.
Built into the DAWs
- Ableton Live 12.3 added stem separation inside Live and Splice sample suggestions; Live 12 has MIDI Generators and Transformations.
- Logic Pro 12 added Synth Player and Chord ID alongside its Session Players.
- FL Studio 2026's Gopher can take actions such as creating drum patterns and applying effects; coverage of the release says it can't write melodies or chords.
These generate or process one thing at a time. The apps above work across the project from a single request.
How to choose
- Which DAW? For Logic Pro or FL Studio, the options are Chorus, the open-source servers, or the DAW's own features. For Ableton Live, everything here applies.
- Do you want to review changes before they land? Some tools apply changes as the AI makes them; others, like Chorus, stage them for you to hear and approve. On a project you care about, that matters.
- Credits or your own key? Credit plans are simple; your own AI key means you pay the AI provider directly, at cost.
- App or open source? Open-source servers are free and hackable but take setup; apps handle setup and add review, history and support.
